The Pan-Pacific Surgical Association offers different
types of memberships:
Regular Member
A U.S. applicant must be a:
- Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, or
- Diplomat of one of the American Specialty Boards
as approved by the Advisory Board for Medical Specialties in a branch of surgery,
or
- Diplomat of one of the allied branches of surgery
(for example, anesthesiology, pathology or radiology)
An applicant from a country other than the U.S. must
be a:
- Graduate in medicine from a medical school that
is accepted by the national medical association of the applicants country
or residence, or
- Member of either the national surgical association
of the applicants country or residence, or of a national surgical specialty
association of the country
Associate Member
An applicant who does not meet all of the requirements to be a Regular Member
can apply to be an Associate Member. An Associate Member must be:
- A graduate of a medical school that is accepted
by the national medical association in the country of the applicants residence,
or
- Licensed to practice medicine in that country, state,
territory, province or political subdivision, or
- A graduate of a recognized medical officer training
program in the Pacific Basin. Candidate Member
Candidate Member
A Candidate Member must be a:
- Resident or fellow in a recognized surgical specialty
with documentation of the training status by his or her chief of service.
Candidate membership continues as long as the members
is in a certified training program and for no longer than two years following
the termination of the training status. Verification of continuation of the training
status shall be obtained from the program training director at least every two
years.
